Why I built this

I was an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount for four years.

Keeping track of who’s in

Filling our non-conference weekends meant tracking who was in, who was out, and who might still go either way, across an email list and a run of texts. It was never current. A team drops, a tournament fills, someone holds your spot while they compare it against something better.

Comparing what’s on offer

Guarantees come in different shapes: cash, hotel rooms, a return match. Add the distance, add who else is already in the event, and you’re weighing five things at once with no way to lay them side by side.

Knowing where you stand

RPI is built out of the teams you played and the teams they played, so a September opponent is still moving your number in November. I used to sit across three or four sites and then wait for the NCAA’s Monday release to find out if I was right.

The Season Strategy Board: preseason weekends laid out week by week, each event showing its opponents and their RPI, with an RPI tracker alongside.

Every weekend on one board, with what each opponent does to your RPI.

Every program schedules differently. Some go after the toughest teams they can get, some schedule for wins, some are scheduling to make the tournament. Underneath it’s the same goal, because every team wants a shot at playing for a national championship.

I built the first version and showed it to head coaches around the country. Every one of them said they wanted it. It’s free while we’re building it out, and it works better the more programs are on it.
